One consideration for buyers is how Chamberlain’s myQ openers integrate with other smart home platforms like Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, etc. Chamberlain’s myQ has some integration, but also a few limitations to be aware of (as of early 2025):

Historically, Chamberlain offered Google Assistant integration via a paid subscription (myQ Premium) – allowing you to use voice commands like “Hey Google, ask myQ to close the garage door.” However, in mid-2023 Chamberlain dropped official support for Google Assistant. They cited low usage and security as reasons. This means currently you cannot link myQ with Google Home to control the door (previous functionality was disabled). Some users have tried workarounds (like using IFTTT as a middleman), but native support is no longer available. Chamberlain’s focus seems to have shifted away from direct voice assistant control.

Chamberlain/MyQ has never offered an official Alexa skill for garage door control. This is something of a sore point in the smart home community, since many expected Alexa support. The likely reason is security – Amazon Alexa (at least until recently) didn’t natively support garage door commands without a complicated PIN system, and Chamberlain has opted not to create an Alexa skill.

It’s somewhat ironic because Chamberlain partners closely with Amazon for in-garage delivery, yet you cannot open/close the door by saying “Alexa, open my garage” (Alexa simply doesn’t recognize Chamberlain devices). As a workaround, tech-savvy users have employed Alexa Routines + IFTTT or other hubs, but officially Alexa cannot control MyQ garages. So if voice control via Echo is a priority, MyQ might disappoint on that front.

Chamberlain did provide a solution for HomeKit in the form of the myQ Home Bridge accessory (a separate hub that translates myQ to Apple’s HomeKit protocol). With that bridge, you could get Siri control and Home app integration for the garage. Unfortunately, Chamberlain discontinued the MyQ Home Bridge in 2022. If you already have one, it still works locally, but new customers will find it hard to acquire. As of 2025, Chamberlain has no built-in HomeKit support in its openers (none of the Wi-Fi models natively appear in HomeKit without that bridge).

This means Siri voice commands or Home app automations are not available out-of-the-box. Some power-users have used unofficial methods (Homebridge plugins, etc.), but Chamberlain recently blocked third-party API access for DIY integrations, citing security/load issues. So, integrating MyQ with HomeKit has become difficult unless you already have the discontinued bridge device. We may hope that future Matter support could solve this, but Chamberlain has not announced Matter compatibility yet.

Chamberlain’s myQ was integrated with IFTTT (If This Then That), allowing you to create applets like “If my garage opens, then turn on Hue lights” or even voice triggers via Alexa/Google by linking through IFTTT. This too was part of their subscription model – you needed a myQ Premium subscription to enable IFTTT applets. As of now, the myQ service still appears on IFTTT and can be used for custom automations. For example, you could set up an IFTTT rule so that when you say a specific phrase to Alexa, it triggers the garage via myQ (since Alexa can trigger IFTTT and IFTTT can talk to myQ).

This is a popular unofficial workaround for Alexa voice control. Keep in mind, if Chamberlain has indeed withdrawn Google Assistant support, they may also phase out IFTTT support, but no official announcement has been made on IFTTT – it’s likely still functioning with the subscription. IFTTT integration allows linking myQ with hundreds of other products (lights, thermostats, etc.), albeit with some latency.

There is no native SmartThings support from Chamberlain. Some older SmartThings custom integrations existed but relied on the unofficial API (which, as noted, was shut down in 2023). So currently, you can’t directly add a myQ opener to SmartThings or other Zigbee/Z-Wave hubs (myQ is a cloud-to-cloud system, not a Z-Wave device).

On a more positive note, Chamberlain has partnered with several security and home automation platforms:

  • Alarm.com: MyQ can integrate with Alarm.com-based security systems. If you have a security panel or service (often through installers) that uses Alarm.com, you can likely control and monitor the garage door through that interface once linked.
  • Ring: Since Ring is owned by Amazon, Chamberlain’s partnership with Amazon extends to Ring cameras and alarm. In the Ring app, you can add your myQ-connected garage door as a device. This lets you monitor the door status in the Ring app and open/close it there, and you can also set Ring cameras to start recording when the garage door opens (useful as an automation). Chamberlain’s myQ app has a “Works with Ring” section for linking accounts.
  • Resideo/Honeywell and Vivint: These platforms have also included support for myQ garage door control in various system configurations.
  • Wink Hub: At one time, myQ was compatible with Wink, but with Wink’s ecosystem now largely inactive, this is no longer a relevant option.
  • Tesla, Mercedes, BMW, etc : Chamberlain launched myQ Connected Garage for vehicles, an integration that allows certain car brands’ in-dash systems or smartphone apps to operate the garage. For example, Tesla owners can subscribe to a service that links their car to MyQ – enabling garage control from the Tesla touchscreen (Tesla uses this for their integrated garage door feature if you opt out of using HomeLink). Some new Kia models also feature myQ integration built-in. These in-vehicle integrations often require a subscription or one-time fee (Tesla, for instance, charges a small fee for MyQ integration which includes a free myQ hub in some promotions). This is a growing area, essentially replacing built-in HomeLink hardware with cloud-based control.

In short, Siri and Alexa users will not have direct voice control at this time, and Google Assistant support was recently removed, reflecting Chamberlain’s closed approach with MyQ. This means MyQ openers operate somewhat outside of unified smart home systems like Apple Home or Alexa routines. However, the myQ app and notifications cover most use-cases for a lot of homeowners, and Chamberlain is focusing on integrations like in-car controls and delivery services which add unique value.

If voice control or HomeKit integration is a must-have for you, you might need to look at third-party smart garage controllers or wait to see if Chamberlain joins the new Matter standard in the future (no indication of that yet). As of now, Chamberlain seems content with their own app and select partnerships (Amazon, Alarm.com, Ring, etc.) for ecosystem integration
